WISMC Meetings

Format

Our meetings take place in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. However, to keep things orderly, we do follow a regular meeting format.

The meeting is called to order at 7:00 p.m. and proceeds as follows:

  • We begin with short business meeting to handle any outstanding club items.
  • The business portion is followed by general presentation by the members.
    • This is basically a "show-and-tell" session given by members who have volunteered to bring something in.
    • The topics of the presentations vary from month to month as different members from show off the progress they have made on their models; new modelling technique or material they have discovered; or their latest tool acquisitions.
    • We usually have about 3 presentations per meetings
  • After the general meeting, we often split up into smaller groups of interest to concentrate on additional topics, demonstration or instruction.
  • The meeting can finish up to around 10:00 p.m.

Language

Meetings are, for the most part, conducted in English.

With about one third of the current membership being French and with a good percentage of the remaining members being able to speak French, you will find that both languages are spoken at the meetings.

For the most part, presentations are given in English (even by most of our francophone members). However, the club encourages members to make presentations and ask questions in whatever language they feel most comfortable with - French or English. There will always be someone around who will be more than willing to translate if someone doesn't understand.

Membership

Newcomers are more than welcome to come and sit in on a couple of our monthly meetings to see if they like the club. However, to become an official member of our club, we do collect an annual membership fee of $30 to cover the rental of our clubhouse and operating expenses.
